Abstract

This study is on the impact of management training on employee productivity. The total population for the study is 200 Siba group of company of ikot Ekpene local government area of Akwa Ibom state. The researcher used questionnaires as the instrument for the data collection. Descriptive Survey research design was adopted for this study. A total of 133 respondents made production managers, marketers, senior staff and junior staff were used for the study. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentages and frequencies

INTRODUCTION

  • Background of the study

In today’s world of technological changes, the impact of management training on employee productivity is beyond all reasonable doubt. This means that, the impact of management training on employee productivity can make direct impact on employee’s characteristics such as commitment, motivation and skill. The employees having those characteristics  through the impact of management training, it is probably that organizational performance  in terms of productivity, quality and diverse of high levels of customer service delivery will improve and if such aspects of organizational performance improve, the financial results achieved by the organization will also be improved. In fact, by the definition of the term training according to Armstrong (2001), training is teaching or developing in one self or others any skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one’s capacity, capability, productivity and performance. By the definition of the word training, its impact on employee productivity can advise management on the development of a high performance strategy supported by performance and reward initiatives. Additionally, training can review policies and practices such as those concerned with organizational development, engagement, resourcing, learning and development and employees relations. Through management training, decisions can be made easily by the manager in organization to enhance existing policies and practice or introduce new ones. It has been one of the most pervasive methods for enhancing the productivity of individuals and communicating organizational goals to new personnel and the existing ones. This study is set to examine the impact of training diverse advantages on employee’s productivity in organization and Siba Group of Company Limited in particular.

 

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

  1. Management inability to identify the impact of Apprenticeship on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.
  2. Irregular Job Rotation which has resulted to decrease employee output produced in a specific period of time.
  3. Organization lack the knowledge to understand the impact of vestibule training on increase employee productivity
  4. Management inability to examine the impact of Staff Meeting on increase employee output produced in a specific period of time.
  5. Organization inability to determine the impact of Role playing on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.

 1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The objectives of the study are;

  1. To identify the impact of Apprenticeship on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.
  2. To determine the impact of Job Rotation on increase employee output produced in a specific period of time.
  3. To examine the impact of vestibule training on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.
  4. To examine the impact of Staff Meeting on increase employee output produced in a specific period of time.
  5. To determine the impact of Role Playing on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time

1.4 RESEARCH HYPOTHESES

For the successful completion of the study, the following research hypotheses were formulated by the researcher;

H0:   there is no impact of Apprenticeship on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time

H1: there is impact of Apprenticeship on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.

H02: there is no impact of Role Playing on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time.

H2: there is impact of Role Playing on increase employee quality/quantity produced in a specific period of time

1.5 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will help the management in every sector of the economy and Siba Group of company in particular in identifying the need of training employees especially in an era of dynamic and competitive business environment. It will help organization to cover areas like goal-setting, collaborative problem solving, supervising investment, and evaluation of end result, etc.

  1. It will help the management to minimize the chance of miscommunication by understanding what people are really saying and why?
  2. It will help them deal with difficult people, manage tense situations, and solve conflict among employees.
  3. It will help organization to be able to manage time and work assignment effectively.
  4. This research work will also help the management to define and set up a method to track staff activities.
  5. It will serve as a reference material for both students and other researchers for future studies.

 1.6 SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study is basically on the impact of Management Training on Employee Productivity. A case study of Siba Group of Company Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The researcher encounters some constrain which limited the scope of the study;

  1. a) AVAILABILITY OF RESEARCH MATERIAL: The research material available to the researcher is insufficient, thereby limiting the study
  2. b) TIME: The time frame allocated to the study does not enhance wider coverage as the researcher has to combine other academic activities and examinations with the study.
  3. c) Organizational privacy: Limited Access to the selected auditing firm makes it difficult to get all the necessary and required information concerning the activities

1.7 DEFINITION OF TERMS

MANGAEMENT TRAINING: Management training programs help business executives build skills for leveraging new opportunities and creating exceptional organizational value. That’s why we offer specific management training programs addressing strategic challenges and issues faced by executives and managers at every level.

EMPLOYEE: a person employed for wages or salary, especially at non-executive level.

EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY: Employee productivity (sometimes referred to as workforce productivity) is an assessment of the efficiency of a worker or group of workers. Productivity may be evaluated in terms of the output of an employee in a specific period of time.

1.8 ORGANIZATION OF THE STUDY

This research work is organized in five chapters, for easy understanding, as follows

Chapter one is concern with the introduction, which consist of the (overview, of the study), historical background, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research hypotheses, significance of the study, scope and limitation of the study, definition of terms and historical background of the study. Chapter two highlights the theoretical framework on which the study is based, thus the review of related literature. Chapter three deals on the research design and methodology adopted in the study. Chapter four concentrate on the data collection and analysis and presentation of finding.  Chapter five gives summary, conclusion, and recommendations made of the study
